Bishop William Barber and NC Faith Leaders to Stand Up to NC Voter Suppression Bill
RALEIGH, NC — August 14, 2026 — Nationally renowned civil rights leader and Repairers of the Breach President Bishop William J. Barber II will bring together members of the clergy, moral activists and all people of conscience for for a news conference Tuesday, August 18, at 11:00 AM in front of the NC State Legislative Building (16 W Jones St, Raleigh, NC) to speak out against the General Assembly’s latest attempt to suppress the vote, House Bill 958.
The bill, passed along party lines by the NC General Assembly earlier this month, would not only cut the state’s early voting period by nearly half, but would enact a series of voter suppression provisions that would endanger fair elections in North Carolina. This is just the latest power grab by the legislature’s majority party.
In addition to standing up against this later attempt at voter suppression, Tuesday’s news conference is part of the 100 Days; 1,000 Marches to the Polls voter mobilization initiative organized by Repairers of the Breach and the Moral Monday Public Pulpit 1,000 marches to the polls across the United States ahead of Election Day, November 3, 2026.
Tuesday’s news conference will include remarks by Bishop Barber as well as Rev. Frank Dew (NC Council of Churches), Rev. Wayne Wilhelm (Shepherd’s Flock Baptist Church), Dr. Hanna Broome, and more.
