We Honor Dr. King By Carrying His Work Forward–Let’s Mobilize!

On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Bishop William J. Barber, II, President & Sr. Lecturer of Repairers of the Breach, reminds us that we honor Dr. King and the legacy of the advocates and martyrs who came before us by reaching down into the blood, picking up the baton, and continuing to carry the work forward.

“You really don’t have a holiday for prophets,” he said during his MLK address at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Biloxi, MS.  “You have a recommitment, a consecration. How you remember prophets or prophetic voices is you go to the spot where they died, and you pick up the baton, and carry it the rest of the way,” he said.

In case you missed it, you can watch Bishop Barber’s MLK sermon below.

Over the next few weeks, Repairers of the Breach is leading a massive organizing and mobilization effort of poor and low-wage voters across North Carolina and other states, culminating in the “This Is Our Selma! — Wilson-to-Raleigh Moral March” (Feb. 11-13) and the “Mass People’s Assembly and Moral March and Mobilization on Raleigh” (Feb. 14).

Today, as a way to support the mobilization, we are pleased to share the Mass People’s Assembly & Moral March and Mobilization Organizing Toolkit. We invite you to download resources, including conversation guides, promotional graphics, and outreach email templates to help mobilize your community for the upcoming moral march and people’s assembly. If you have any questions or need support, you can email us at moralmarch@breachrepairers.org

The Moral March on Raleigh is not just a single action, it’s a declaration of our power as poor and low-wage voters and allies across North Carolina and other states. Join us in this season of massive civic engagement, voter education and mobilization as we Love Forward Together And Mobilize!
