DID YOU KNOW? (Background information for callers)
Congress is planning deep cuts to the social safety net including:
- 13.7 million: Number of people who will lose Medicaid under the current House Reconciliation Bill
- 11 million, including 4 million children: Number of people who will lose SNAP under the current House Reconciliation Bill
- 4.5 million: Number of children who will lose the Child Tax Credit under the House Reconciliation Bill (does not include 17 million who already don’t qualify for the full credit due to low incomes)
AND it doesn’t have to be this way! We demand an expanded social safety net that lifts from the bottom and allows all of us to thrive, not struggle to survive!

Hello, my name is [insert name], and I’m calling from [insert city/state, zip code] demanding your urgent action on the federal budget.
In 1-2 sentences share how you, your family, or community would be impacted by the devastating budget cuts being proposed by Congress. (Will this impact your access to healthcare? Ability to pay rent or feed your family? Access services that are being defunded and de-staffed? Ex: These proposed budget cuts directly threaten my life (loved one’s life). They would take away my (their) access to healthcare, put my (their) housing at risk, and make it harder for me to feed my family. Without these programs, I honestly don’t know how I (they) will survive.
This is not just bad policy, it’s a moral crisis.
I’m demanding you protect Medicaid, food assistance, housing support, for the expansion of the social safety net and the basic dignity of human life, and encourage the entire congressional delegation from our state to do the same!
