WASHINGTON, DC — On Monday, June 29, at 5:00 PM, Repairers of the Breach will gather clergy, moral activists, and people of conscience in front of the White House at Black Lives Matter Plaza for Moral Monday DC — a public pulpit and prophetic witness in the heart of the nation’s capital.
The gathering comes days after the Supreme Court handed down two rulings that reshape the lives of more than a million immigrants. The Court cleared the way to end temporary protected status for Haitian and Syrian nationals — people who fled war and disaster, now facing removal — and revived a policy permitting the government to turn asylum seekers away at the southern border, sending the most vulnerable back toward the danger they fled.
These are not abstractions. They are families. They are children. They are the strangers that Scripture, across every tradition represented on the plaza, commands the nation to welcome and not wrong.
Moral Monday DC carries four demands, spoken together because they cannot be separated:
- Stop the war.
- Stop the attacks on voting rights.
- Stop the attacks on the poor.
- Stop the attacks on our immigrant community.
The plaza becomes a public pulpit — not a pulpit behind sanctuary walls, but one in the open air, on contested ground. Faith leaders from across the traditions will each carry a demand and sound it together, including Rev. Dr. Terrlyn L. Curry Avery, Rev. Alexa Fraser, Rev. Marcus Levon Leathers, Rev. Stephen Tickner, Rev. Tasharah Y. Person, Rev. Dr. Hanna R. Broome, Rev. Dr. Alvin O’Neal Jackson, and Bishop William J. Barber, II.
This is what Monday after Monday looks like: not one march, not one moment, but a sustained witness that does not flinch and does not leave — especially on the weeks the news is hardest.
We will not be moved. We will not be silent. We will be here.
