Co-Chairs of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival

Launches Statewide Texting, Canvassing and Social Media campaign targeting poor and low-wealth voters

The Poor People’s Campaign of Georgia will host stateside activists and moral leaders along with national co-chairs Rev. William Barber II and Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharison the ground in Georgia for an If We Ever Needed To Vote, We Sure Do Need To Vote Now Tour.

Tour will include people impacted by voter suppression, lack of living wages, poverty, and lack of accessible healthcare.

In Georgia, 1,265,600 people are uninsured, the fourth-highest total in the country. Over 10,000 people are homeless. Working at the federal minimum wage, it takes 93 hours of work per week to afford a 2-bedroom apartment. 1.9 million workers make under 15 dollars an hour — 47 percent of Georgia’s workforce and 49 percent of people in Georgia are poor or low-income—a total of 4.9 million residents. This includes 60 percent of children (1.5 million), 50 percent of women (2.6 million), 62 percent of people of color (2.9 million) and 37 percent of White people (2 million).

Speakers will emphasize to all Georgians - especially poor and low-wealth voters - that their votes will make a difference.

Potential voters and canvassers will be reminded of the runoff election on December 6 and beginning on November 28.

The Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for a Moral Revival is a fusion movement that brings together people of every race, creed sexuality and religion to work to eliminate systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, denial of healthcare, the war economy, and the false distorted narrative of religious nationalism in the richest country in the world and to guarantee justice for all.
